Last Wednesday, our debating team took part in their first match up against St. Stephen’s (Tockholes). This is part of a Blackburn with Darwen wide league that we are taking part in for the first time and is an important part of our aim to develop oracy across school. To prepare for the competition, the team had to research and put together their own 3 minute speeches to debate– one in opposition to a ban on animal testing in the UK and the second where they were for the banning of social media for under 16s. The children did amazingly well and delivered their debates with poise, eloquence and confidence and came away the winners of this first match! A big well done to Caden, Jestina, Millie, Trent, Daisy and Lillie on their success and to Shannon, Laela and Ellie who supported the team in their research and timekeeping. Two further debating matches will be held later in March against St. Cuthbert’s and The Redeemer. Watch this space to see how we get on in those!
