The subject leader for P.E at St James' is Miss Pennington.
Here at St James' we aim to build on the progress that we made in previous years. In Reception we begin by focusing on Physical and Social Development and start to talk about what changes happen to our bodies when we are active.
As we progress through school, we begin to develop our multi-skills: running, jumping, throwing and catching. We start to play competitive team games and learn how to be a model sportsperson. We learn how to dance and move in various ways and make the most of the outdoors by undertaking Outdoor and Adventures Activities. A big part of our progression is based around evaluating our own and others skills, work and performances.

Snapshot of P.E
We had a whole range of activities and sports being delivered in PE lessons throughout the Autumn Term!
KS1 have focused on developing skills such as throwing, catching and rolling - these skills are vitally important as they underpin the majority of team sports that they will be exposed to throughout KS2. Year 1 also had a go at gymnastics, making good use of our 'big equipment' such as the wall bars and ropes in the hall.
KS2 children have been participating in a variety of sports including hockey, netball and rugby. Year 5 also performed an impressive Hakka dance which coincided perfectly with the Rugby World Cup!
Check out the pictures below to see us in action!
We also had a visit from former Olympian gymnast, Daniel Purvis. He put us all through our paces with a fitness circuit in the hall before talking to us about his exciting career. Through listening to Daniel, we realised that even for athletes, the road to success is bumpy! We learned that we have to stay motivated and focused in order to succeed, even when things aren't quite going our way. Daniel topped off the afternoon by showing off some of his moves and posing for pictures with some of our children.
Thanks Daniel, we had a great afternoon!
