Week 5

The egg drop challenge

This week in year 6 by Millie

This week has been epic! We presented our manifestos to the class and everyone was amazing. I can’t wait to find out who has won.

On Thursday, we learned how to use multiples to find equivalent fractions. It was really good even if it was a bit tricky.

Yesterday we we made our egg protection devices to protect Egbert the clumsy egg. We worked in groups of 5 to brainstorm and design a device. We brought our own materials in and worked together to create the device. We all presented our devices to each other and we thought of a hypothesis. Today, we tested the devices. Miss Kelly dropped everyone’s devices from the top of a ladder to see which eggs would crack and which would survive. After that, we came back in and analysed the eggs for cracks (we decided to hard boil them). Group 3, 4, and 5 designed a device which protected their eggs but groups 1, 2 and 6 didn’t. We presented our results in different ways - some people did bar charts and some people did tables.

It it was an amazing week! I certainly enjoyed it 😁

Polling Day

Today was a very exciting day at St James. The children voted for this year’s Pupil Voice Co-ordinators. We had a few specially selected children act as pollin station helpers for Mrs Tindall, who made sure all votes were kept confidential and helped the morning to run smoothly. The children are all anxious to find out who has won the election but they will have to wait patiently for the winners to be announced in worship 😊
