Week 6

What We've Been Up to This Week

We have been practising hard this week for our Y3/4 Christmas performance: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. We can't wait for you to see it! It will be filmed next week and put on our school youtube channel as well as a link put on our class page.

We have been continuing our English unit of discussion texts. The children have looked at existing discussion texts and analysed the structure and language. We had lots of discussions to explore for and against arguments surrounding our question: Would You Want to Live in an Epicentre? An epicentre is the location directly above an earthquake. The children did a great job and whilst the seemingly obvious answer would be no, we were able to come up with many reasons why people would want to live in an epicentre. We used conjunctions to give evidence for these reasons and then developed a plan, ready to start writing next week!

We have started a new way of working within class, using Kagan groups. This involves much more discussion and collaborative work. I have already noticed a big improvement in the enthusiasm and quality of contributions from the children in class, as they have been able to discuss ideas with their 'shoulder partner', 'facing partner' or whole group first.

We had a spirituality session in church based on the bible passage: "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." Luke 2:19

The children enjoyed a true or false quiz about the nativity story, as well as learning about Jesus's different names. They then made a Christmas decoration of a treasure chest for the Christmas tree in church.

We have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 3 in maths, and practising our 3 times tables. It would be great if the children could continue this practice on Times Table Rockstars at home. Please ask if you have lost your log in.
