What a lovely first week back! 

This week we enjoyed exploring our new English text - The Storm Whale. The children talked about the items on our hook table - shells, a raincoat, a cat, sand and a whale in a container of water. They made predictions and we added a post box to write notes to the whale. We read the story and started to learn the story song that goes with it. 

In maths we introduced a new piece of equipment - the Rekenrek. These are small abacus type resources which we practised putting in the ready position and using one finger to push the beads along. The children were fabulous and are becoming Rekenrek experts! 

In play and learn, we have been making beach pictures with sand and talking about our existing knowledge of beaches. We talked about activities which might happen at the beach such as making sandcastles, playing Frisby, paddling and eating ice cream!
