Welcome to Our School

A very warm welcome to you!

My name is Miss Tindall and I have the privilege of being the Headteacher at St. James' Lower Darwen.

I’ve worked at St. James for almost a decade, and it’s been an honour to grow within this wonderful community- from my early days as a student teacher, to class teacher, then Deputy Head, SENCo and now as Headteacher. It is a true privilege to have seen the school through so many chapters and to continue leading it forward.

We are a Church of England Primary School serving an amazing community, working together with the Church, Diocese and other local partners to help all members of our school family to flourish. Hopefully, as you navigate your way around these pages, you will see exactly what it means to flourish.

Our foundation scriptures, Jeremiah 29:11 and John 10:10, underpin everything we offer. We believe God has a plan for all of us and wants to equip us to live “life in all its fullness.” Through our daily acts of Collective Worship, the way we have planned and organised our curriculum, and the enrichment opportunities we offer, we believe we are building faith, growing as a family, and working towards a successful future for everyone.

Our work on developing the whole child means that as well as concentrating on academic and spiritual development, we have a strong focus on physical and emotional development too. This comes through the nurture support we offer to children and their families, through our sporting clubs, extra-curricular activities and supported outdoor play (zoning). We also have a strong focus on taking learning beyond the classroom whenever possible. Again, as you explore the website, you will see this in action!
