Week 2

We have had an incredibly busy, successful, and exciting week in class. From mastering different writing styles to shining in sports, science, and the arts, the children have truly excelled. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

✍️ English: Exploring Formality with Wonder

Inspired by our work on the book and film Wonder, we explored character relationships and learned how to manipulate grammar and vocabulary to suit different audiences. The children challenged themselves by writing:

  • An informal WhatsApp chat between two characters.

  • A contrasting formal letter of apology from a student to the Principal.

They did a fantastic job, working brilliantly with their partners to edit, refine, and improve their final pieces!

πŸ’‘ Science: Illuminating Discoveries

We took our understanding of light and reflection to the next level this week. The class conducted a hands-on experiment to investigate how well different materials reflect light. We also explored the mechanics of mirrors and had a great time discovering exactly how periscopes work.

πŸŽ‰ A Thrilling Enrichment Afternoon

Our Enrichment Afternoon was a massive hit! The classroom and hall were buzzing with energy as the children enjoyed a brilliant range of workshops and activities, including:

  • Glow-in-the-dark dodgeball 🟒

  • Creative artwork and karaoke 🎀

  • Building an epic cardboard kingdom πŸ“¦

πŸ† Celebrating Our Superstars!

We have some massive achievements to celebrate across the school and year group this week:

  • Last Choir Singing Finals: Some of our Year 6 pupils took to the stage alongside the rest of the school choir for the big finals. They gave an outstanding performance and walked away with the prestigious Best Newcomer Award! 🎡

  • Netball Finals Success: Our Year 6 netballers competed in the finals and earned an incredible 3rd place finish after weeks of tough competition. For some of the children, this was their very first time playing netball, making this a truly massive achievement. We are so proud of your teamwork and determination! 🏐

πŸ“š Author Visit: Inspiration from Stuart Reid!

To wrap up our amazing week, on Friday we were visited by the award-winning children's author, Stuart Reid. He hosted a brilliantly funny and entertaining assembly all about his books, followed by an exclusive creative writing workshop for Year 6. The children absolutely loved hearing about his life as an author and left bursting with new ideas for their own stories!
