What a busy and brilliant week it has been in Year 6! Despite the soaring temperatures, the children have shown incredible focus and creativity across all their subjects.
Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to:
In science, we have been diving deep into our topic on light. The children worked in collaborative groups to design and launch their own investigations into how distance affects the height of shadows. Showing some excellent scientific rigour, several groups even took multiple measurements and calculated averages to ensure their data was highly accurate.
We put our knowledge of light and the sun to the test in a timely STEM challenge: designing a cooling garden! Tasked with creating a space featuring a refreshing pool and optimal sun shades, the children used torches to simulate the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. It was a fantastic way to apply our learning—and very wishful thinking during this current heatwave!
In Geography, we have turned into local researchers. We are designing our very own fieldwork project to investigate graffiti in our local area and analyse how it affects the community. The children have been busy using maps to plan safe routes and conducting thorough risk assessments. However, we are playing it safe; we will be waiting for this intense heatwave to pass before we head out to collect our data!
Meanwhile, in Maths, we have been mastering the geometry of shape, tackling the tricky concepts of translations and reflections with great confidence.
Amidst all our academic hard work, the classroom has been filled with music and drama. We have dedicated lots of energy to our play practices and singing rehearsals. The talent is shining through, and we can’t wait to see it all come together!
