Week 5

We are officially in the thick of summer term excitement! The Year 6 classroom has been a hub of creativity and practical life skills this week, with the children working exceptionally hard across all areas.

Here is a look at what we have been learning:

🧮 Maths: Financial Literacy & Disco Budgets!

This week, we took a break from traditional geometry to dive into the incredibly important world of real-world finance. The children explored how tax works and discussed exactly what public services it pays for. We had some brilliant debates around wants vs. needs and what it truly means to save versus spend. To put their new budgeting skills to the test, children worked in pairs to manage a strict budget for a hypothetical school disco. There were some tough financial decisions to make, but they managed their funds brilliantly!

✍️ English: Mystical Poems and Villainous Perspectives

In English, we have been exploring our captivating text, Paradise Sands. The children used the book as inspiration to write their own enchantment curse poems, showing off some absolutely spectacular vocabulary that blew us away! We also turned the story on its head by analyzing an example text written entirely from the perspective of the villain, which helped us think about character motivation in a whole new way.

🎭 Production: The Countdown is On!

The show must go on! We have been incredibly hard at work with our end-of-term play rehearsals this week. The classroom and hall have been filled with beautiful singing, and the children have been busy organizing and preparing all the necessary props. The excitement is building, and the production is really starting to come together!
