Some of our Learning this Week:

🎡 Music

In Music, we began our new unit on pitch, learning how to recognise high and low sounds. The children used their bodies and hands to show whether a sound was high or low and experimented with singing the highest and lowest notes they could. We are beginning to use musical vocabulary confidently and listen carefully to how pitch can change.

The children loved joining in with the pitch chant, “High, low, chicka-lo!” as they experimented with high and low sounds.

🏺 History

In History, we started our new topic, How have toys changed? The children shared their favourite toys and talked about why they are special. We explored the difference between the past and the present and used time-related vocabulary to describe when we got our toys. It was lovely to hear the children confidently sharing their memories.

πŸƒ‍♂️ PE – Target Games

In PE, we focused on developing our underarm throwing skills. The children practised keeping their eyes on the target, stepping forward with the opposite foot and releasing the beanbag carefully to improve their accuracy. They showed great perseverance and teamwork during our target challenges.

πŸƒ‍♀️ PE – Sending & Receiving

We also began our Sending and Receiving unit, developing our rolling and throwing skills towards a target. The children practised bending low, aiming carefully and adapting their power when aiming at targets further away. They worked brilliantly as teammates, showing encouragement and honesty during our team challenges.

πŸ“– English – Where the Wild Things Are

We have launched our exciting new text, Where the Wild Things Are! We have explored props, made predictions and stepped into role as characters from the story. We have been strengthening our sentence writing by adding suffixes such as -ing and -ed and using adventurous vocabulary from the text. The children are fully immersed in Max’s wild adventure!

We are so proud of the fantastic start Year 1 have made this half term! 🌟
