Week 3

This week we have been:

  • Sorting animals into different categories such as spot, stripes and plain or farm and non-farm.
  • Exploring the number bonds to 7, especially 5 and 2. We sang 7 little ducks to help do this.
  • Planning and writing the Opening Octopus to our story Little Red.
  • Making cards.
  • Completing Science Day activities surrounding animals.

Science Day was very fun! We explored and discussed what living things are and what they do (move, breathe, eat, excrete, grow, reproduce and sense things). We talked about how this doesn't look the same for all living things, for example how we get rid of our waste is very different to a plant! The children very much enjoyed that conversation! We planned an investigation to answer the question: "Do living and non-living things eat food?" Our method was to give a dog some food and a teddy some food and to observe carefully what happened. We decided to make it a fair test we would offer 4 treats to each thing. First we predicted what would happen, then we did our investigation and recorded the results. For this, a real dog came to our school! He was called Brock and was a very good boy! We also learnt about jobs linked to animals and about the famous scientist David Attenborough.  In the afternoon, we attended the showcase where all the classes showed off what they had been up to for Science Day.
