🎨Art – Sculpture and 3D: Paper Play
On Monday, the children enjoyed a fantastic Art Day led by Miss Pattinson, where they explored sculpture and 3D art using paper.
Throughout the day, the children developed their skills step-by-step. They began by learning how to roll paper into tubes to create simple 3D sculptures, experimenting with different shapes and arrangements to build their own “tube towers”.
They then moved on to creating 3D drawings, where they used techniques such as folding, rolling and bending paper to make shapes that stood out from a flat surface. The children carefully arranged and overlapped their paper strips to create interesting designs.
In the final lesson, the children designed and created their own imaginative “Tree of Life” sculptures. They planned their ideas first, then used a range of paper-shaping techniques such as rolling, folding and scrunching to bring their designs to life. Many children added patterns and details to make their artwork unique.
It was wonderful to see the children showing creativity, perseverance and pride in their work as they explored how to turn simple materials into impressive 3D art pieces.
✝️ RE – Easter
This week in RE, the children explored the question: “How do you think people feel when someone they love has died?”
The children took part in thoughtful discussions, sharing their ideas and, where appropriate, their own experiences. They talked about a range of emotions people might feel, such as sadness, confusion, worry and anger, and used emojis to help represent these feelings.
We linked this learning to the Easter story, thinking about how Jesus’ followers may have felt when he died. The children showed great empathy and respect during discussions and listened carefully to one another.
We also explored Christian beliefs about life after death, learning that Christians believe Jesus ascended to be with God and that there is a new life in heaven.
It was wonderful to see the children engaging so sensitively with this important topic, showing compassion and understanding towards others.
🕰️ History – Toys Past and Present
This week in History, the children explored how toys have changed over time. They compared toys from the past with toys we play with today, identifying similarities and differences.
The children looked closely at different toys and discussed how they were made, the materials used and how they work. They were able to identify that some toys are similar across time, such as trains and cars, but may be made from different materials or include new features like batteries.
Through discussion and activities, the children developed their understanding of the past and present, using key vocabulary and explaining their ideas with confidence.
