  • Week 2

It has been a busy and productive week in Year 6! We have been diving deep into a variety of challenging topics across the curriculum as we continue our preparations for the busy term ahead.

    Maths: Mastering Angles

We have been sharpening our geometry skills by focusing on angles. The class has been working through increasingly complex, multi-step problems to calculate missing angles. This work is essential preparation as we build our confidence and reasoning skills in anticipation of the upcoming SATs.

    English: The Endurance Expedition

In our literacy lessons, we have been captivated by the harrowing and heroic narrative of Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance. We have been closely analysing the text to understand how authors use formal language, semi-colons and synonyms and antonyms to create contrast. Next week, the students will step into the shoes of the explorers as they plan and write their own first-person narratives, choosing a specific part of this legendary journey to recount.

History: The Sikh Empire and Lahore

Our history studies have taken us to the heart of the Sikh Empire. We have been focusing on the significant city of Lahore, researching its vital role as a hub for the empire. Through group discussions, we examined the importance of the city’s trade routes and analysed the profound impact this connectivity had on the economic life and social structure of the Sikh Empire.

    Science: Sustainability at School

As part of our ongoing topic on sustainability, we have been turning our attention closer to home—right here at our school. The children have been investigating our energy consumption, gathering data to understand how much energy we use on a daily basis. We have had some fantastic, thought-provoking discussions about practical ways we can reduce our school’s carbon footprint and promote more sustainable habits.
