  • Week 6

We have had an incredibly busy, creative, and "word-rich" week of learning, pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and showing fantastic teamwork. Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to:

✍️ English: The Footsteps of an Explorer

This week, the children have been hard at work writing their comprehensive Ernest Shackleton biographies. Combining their historical research with their own independent writing skills, they have created stunning double-page spreads complete with detailed illustrations.

But we didn't stop at the page! To build on their writing, the children took to the airwaves to produce their very own Shackleton Podcasts. Showing great imagination and empathy, some groups even had a member take on the role of Shackleton himself for a live, hard-hitting interview. The level of historical detail and mature expression was wonderful to hear.

📊 Maths: Charting Success & "No Pens Day" Algebra

In Maths, our focus has been on statistics, with the children learning how to interpret, analyse, and draw different kinds of charts and graphs.

Wednesday brought a brilliant twist to our learning with "No Pens Day"—a full day dedicated entirely to oral communication and reasoning. The children took on a collaborative algebra challenge in groups. Instead of writing, they had to vocally negotiate, construct algebraic equations, and set challenges for other groups to solve. The room was alive with high-level mathematical reasoning, debate, and problem-solving!

    🎨 Art: Sculpting Our Identity

In Art, we shifted our focus to three-dimensional work by exploring and appraising different styles of sculpture. We had some fascinating discussions about how art can represent the inner thoughts, history, and identity of the artist. Putting theory into practice, the children used clay and various mixed media to create their own unique sculptures, designed to represent a personal aspect of themselves.
