Geography – What is it like here? 🌍

This week, Year 1 explored where we are in the world. We used aerial photographs to learn what our local area looks like from above and then identified familiar features such as roads, buildings, trees and our school. We learnt that an aerial view is a view seen from above. We looked at an aerial view of our school.

Throwing and Catching – Ready Position

Year 1 made a fantastic start to their new Throwing and Catching unit in PE. In their first lesson, the children learned how to adopt a balanced ready position to help prepare their bodies for throwing and catching. They practised standing with their feet apart, knees slightly bent and hands held out in front, while keeping their eyes focused on the object.

The children enjoyed travelling around the hall in different ways before quickly moving into their ready position when they heard the signal. They then developed their coordination by tossing and catching beanbags with two hands and working with a partner to roll and gather a ball. They challenged themselves to react to balls travelling to the left, right and straight ahead, always remembering to reset their bodies before each turn.

Throughout the lesson, the children demonstrated our SKAT of being organised by listening carefully, using the equipment responsibly and making sure they were ready to learn. They showed excellent concentration, control and teamwork. Well done, Year 1!
