This week in Science, the children became young scientists as they carried out a floating and sinking investigation. They made predictions about different objects and tested them in water to see what would happen. The children enjoyed observing the results and talking about why some objects float while others sink, using scientific vocabulary such as float, sink, and predict.
In PSHE, the children explored feelings linked to loss and change through the story Harold Loses Geoffrey. We discussed how it can feel to lose something important and shared ways people can manage their emotions. The children also completed a thoughtful drawing and writing activity to show different feelings connected to losing and finding something again.
In PE, we enjoyed our Cosmic Yoga session, focusing on balance, movement, and mindfulness. In our second PE lesson, we continued developing our fitness, learning about how exercise helps to keep our muscles strong and healthy.
In DT, we began our puppet project. The children explored different ways of joining fabrics, including pinning, stapling and glueing, and discussed the advantages of each technique. They then moved on to designing their puppets using a template, thinking carefully about their character’s appearance and the materials they will use. Next week, the children will cut around a template and begin creating their puppets.
We also loved watching the J-Factor auditions on Thursday afternoon. We are incredibly proud of all our Year 1 children who were brave enough to take to the stage and amaze us with their confidence and talents — what superstars!
