Year 1 Trip to Blackpool Zoo

The children had a fantastic time exploring Blackpool Zoo on Tuesday. It was a wonderful day full of excitement and hands-on learning.

They took part in a workshop all about animal habitats, where they learned about the different environments animals live in and what they need to survive. The children were able to explore a range of real artefacts, including an elephant’s tooth (which was incredibly big and heavy!), camel fur, snake skin and a turtle shell.

One of the most exciting moments was the chance to hold a cockroach—if they were brave enough! (Miss Bryan wasn’t quite as brave! ๐Ÿ˜Š)

The children also enjoyed watching the sea lion show and had a great time using their maps to explore the zoo and spot lots of different animals.

It was a brilliant day and a lovely opportunity to bring our learning to life.

    Our Class Assembly

On Thursday, the children amazed everyone with their incredible oracy skills as they confidently performed to the whole school, as well as parents and carers. It was wonderful to see how much progress they have made in speaking clearly, projecting their voices and performing with expression.

The children shared their learning across a range of subjects, including RE, where they retold the Easter story, as well as history, science and music. They showed great enthusiasm and pride in their learning, making clear links across the curriculum.

They have worked incredibly hard to learn and memorise their lines, and their confidence really shone through during the performance. The music element was a real highlight, showcasing both their enjoyment and their growing skills.

The Year 1 team are extremely proud of all the children for their hard work, confidence and fantastic teamwork—what a brilliant performance!

    Science

This week in science Year 1 explored seasonal changes, focusing on the signs of spring and what we can observe in our environment at this time of year.

The children were really engaged and enjoyed discussing their ideas, using scientific vocabulary to describe what they could see. They shared their thoughts confidently with their talk partners and as a class, showing great enthusiasm for their learning.

There were some brilliant discussions, with the children beginning to think more carefully about their observations and explain their ideas. It was lovely to see them making links to the world around them and noticing changes happening in real life.

As part of our learning about spring, the children enjoyed creating their own daffodils. They carefully followed instructions to make their flowers, thinking about the different parts of a plant and what a daffodil looks like.
