It has been a week of deep thinking in Year 6! We’ve moved from the wild wilderness of documentaries into the complex world of environmental debate, while tackling some percentage challenges in Maths.
Building on our work with wolves, we transitioned from narratives to balanced arguments. We have been investigating the controversial topic of rewilding in the UK.
The Task: Researching the potential reintroduction of wolves to British landscapes.
The Skills: Students explored a variety of perspectives, weighing the ecological benefits against the concerns of local communities. We are now ready to draft formal arguments that represent both sides of the coin fairly.
In RE, we took a quiet moment to reflect on the meaning of faith. Using the Bible as our guide, we looked at stories where Jesus demonstrated profound faith and discussed how those lessons apply today.
Personal Connections: The children identified people in their own lives—family, friends, or community figures—who they believe demonstrate faith through their daily actions and resilience.
We’ve unlocked a new skill this week: calculating percentages of an amount.
The Method: Instead of just memorising rules, we used our existing knowledge of fraction equivalence.
Example: Understanding that finding 50% is the same as dividing by 2, or that 10% is 1/10 of the total. The class is becoming very efficient at breaking down large numbers into manageable chunks!
