Week 1

What We’ve Been Learning This Week in Year 6

It’s been another fantastic week in Year 6, full of challenge, creativity and great teamwork!

Maths
We have been working hard on fractions, learning how to add and subtract them. Although this has been tricky at times, our Year 6 children have shown brilliant determination and have risen to the challenge—well done!

Geography
We began our new topic on energy sources. We explored where different types of energy come from and learned how countries around the world trade different forms of energy. The children showed excellent curiosity and discussion skills.

French
In French, we started an exciting new unit all about football. We learned new football-related vocabulary such as “footballer”, “half time” and “goal”, and had fun practising saying these words aloud.

PE
Our PE lessons have focused on dodgeball skills. We discussed tactics for both throwers and dodgers, learning how to aim accurately and how to dodge, jump and move quickly to avoid the ball. It’s been energetic and great fun!

English
In English, we immersed ourselves in a stormy sea setting as we began exploring a new text. We listened to sea sounds, studied illustrations and worked in groups to develop rich vocabulary to describe the setting and the character’s emotions. The children then produced some truly outstanding setting descriptions—well done everyone!
