We have had an exciting and busy week of learning!
In Geography, we became urban planners and received a special request from a client who needed advice on planning a new housing village. The children explored which renewable energy source would be most suitable for the location and wrote letters to share their recommendations.
In Computing, we began our new unit on data handling. We learned how to search through data using queries, practising the filter and sort functions, and discussed how these skills are useful in real life—such as shopping online.
In English, we moved on to our next writing outcome: a newspaper report. This week, we investigated new vocabulary, studied an example text and researched real-life sea rescues to collect powerful language to use in our own reports.
In Maths, we started our unit on converting units of measurement. We explored both metric and imperial systems and used tables and bar models to help us with our calculations.
In DT, we continued designing and creating our tote bags. We carefully planned the shapes needed for the final design, created pattern pieces, selected fabric and began sewing everything together. We’re looking forward to seeing the finished products next week!
We also enjoyed a lovely visit to the library with our Year 1 buddies. We walked down to the library (luckily the weather was on our side!), explored books together and even took part in an elf hunt. The children spent time reading to their buddies and finished the visit by listening to a story read by Sue.
