It’s been another busy and exciting week in Year 6!
In Science, we began an experiment looking at mushroom spores as part of our topic on living things and their habitats. We’ve been exploring the different kingdoms of life, and this week we focused on the fascinating Fungi Kingdom.
In Maths, we’ve been learning all about BODMAS and the order of operations, using brackets and applying the rules carefully to solve tricky problems.
In English, we’ve been writing our bravery speeches inspired by Rose Blanche. We’ve been working hard to include adverbs of possibility, use the passive voice, and join our ideas with semicolons to create powerful and thoughtful pieces of writing.
This week also saw the Pedal Along for Bishop Philip, where the class worked together to cover an amazing 20 kilometres! Some children ran, some cycled, and others used their scooters – everyone showed brilliant teamwork and determination.
For spelling, we took our learning outdoors. Using maps, the children searched for root words hidden around the playground and added the suffix –ful to them, making sure each word was spelt correctly.
In History, we’ve started to bring together our findings for our local area study. We’ve been exploring census data to learn about a Victorian resident who lived on Stokes Brow, and we’re now creating our own exhibits to share what life was like in Lower Darwen during Victorian times. The children are choosing to present their work through posters, artwork, timelines, or even podcasts—we can’t wait to see the finished results!
