What an exciting and busy week it has been for Year 6!
In Maths, we’ve been deepening our understanding of fractions — everyone has worked incredibly hard and made fantastic progress. In English, we completed our work on Rose Blanche and delivered our powerful bravery award speeches.
Tuesday brought a special visit from the Life Caravan, where we learned about making safe and sensible choices (and of course, enjoyed seeing Harold the giraffe!).
In Art, we completed our hyperrealistic self-portraits using the grid method to achieve accuracy, before adding our own creative touches with colour.
As part of Black History Month, we proudly presented our learning about Roy Hackett, Paul Stephenson, and Mavis Best through poetry and drama during worship. These inspiring individuals showed great courage in bringing about positive change in our country.
On Friday, we were visited by the fire service, who taught us how to stay safe in a range of situations. They explained how to create a fire plan with our families at home so that we know exactly what to do in the event of a fire, how to check that our smoke alarms are always working, and how to stay safe as passengers in a car. We learned so much and are now much more aware of how to keep ourselves and others safe — especially as Bonfire Night approaches.
We also concluded our history topic with a special class exhibition showcasing our learning about Victorian local history. We shared posters, artwork, timelines, and even a podcast about James Hacking, a local man from Lower Darwen. Year 3 and Year 4 joined us, and we loved sharing what we’d learned with them.
It’s been a fantastic end to our first half term — we’re so proud of everything we’ve achieved. Have a wonderful half term break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back, rested and ready to go, on Monday 3rd November!
