Miss Whaley is our class teacher and will help us to learn and grow.
Miss Brodrick, Mrs Hudson & Miss Ivinson will be our teaching and learning assistants in class.
Mrs Wilton will teach us on a Thursday morning.
This year our PE days are Monday and Friday. The children will need to come to school in their school PE kit. This must be a plain white t-shirt or our red school PE top with black bottoms such as leggings, shorts or joggers and a pair of trainers or black PE pumps.
In Year 3 we will be reading with your child on a 1:1 basis alongside guided reading sessions.
Your child will need to bring their book bag with their reading books and reading record in every day.
Your child will bring home one reading book. This is matched to your child's reading ability. They will need this in school with them each day as reading timetables vary each week.
Please read with your child at home at least three times per week. 10 minutes of reading at home per day is ideal. When you have read with your child, please sign their reading record and they will receive a 'Homework Hero' raffle ticket to go into our prize draw at the end of each half term.
We are lucky enough to have Mrs Whalley as a volunteer in Year 3 this year who will read with some children each week as well as our teaching assistants 😊
This year your child will be given a maths scrapbook and will receive alternate homeworks each week. One week will be a 'talk token' in their homework book and this will be sent home every Friday. This is designed for you to talk about your child's learning with them at home. The next week will be a maths activity for them to complete and discuss. Please send their homework book back to school on or before every Thursday. This is so we have time to go through the homework and give them their raffle tickets. Children will receive a 'Homework Heroes' raffle ticket for completing the talk token or the maths activity at home and at the end of the half term, one lucky winner will be drawn at random for a treat!
Spellings are also an expectation of homework in Year 3. This year we will be sending home 10 spellings on a Friday, and we will be doing a weekly spelling check every Thursday. This is to support and enhance their writing. Please support your child in learning their spellings and practising them over the weekend.
If at any point you wish to speak with a member of the Year 3 team or ask any questions please feel free to catch us at the school door at the start or end of the day. Or alternatively, you can contact Miss Whaley using our class email: year3@stjameslowerdarwen.blackburn.sch.uk or via the Arbor communications app via an in-app message.
