Welcome to the PSHE area of our website!

The subject leader for PSHE at St James' is Miss Bryan and our Well-being coordinator is Mrs Jacques.

    Our Christian Vision for PSHE:

Within our PSHE curriculum, we encourage pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to manage their lives confidently and make healthy, independent choices. We support children to express their emotions and feelings, ask questions in a fair and non-judgemental way, and develop resilience and self-belief. Through this, and guided by our Christian values, we strive for every child to become the best version of themselves.

We are mindful that our Christian values and SKATs underpin all that we do. Our spiritual journey goes hand in hand with our personal and social development, supporting pupils to grow both academically and as individuals. During their time at St James’, pupils are guided by the teachings of God, with the aim that they flourish and go on to live life to the full, making thoughtful and independent choices.

    PSHE Overview:

At St James’, our PSHE curriculum supports pupils to grow as confident, respectful and responsible individuals. Through carefully planned learning, children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to manage their lives now and in the future. This includes learning about relationships, health and wellbeing, keeping safe, and living in the wider world.

Rooted in our Christian vision and values, PSHE plays a vital role in nurturing the whole child. We encourage pupils to reflect on their thoughts, feelings and actions, showing love, compassion, fairness and respect towards others. Our SKATs underpin learning, helping children to become reflective, resilient and independent learners who aim high and work well as part of a team.

We place a strong emphasis on oracy within PSHE, providing opportunities for pupils to express their ideas, listen to others and engage in thoughtful discussion. Children are supported to ask questions in a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment, developing confidence in their voice and respect for the views of others.

Through PSHE, we aim for all pupils to flourish—academically, socially and spiritually—so that they leave St James’ equipped to make informed choices, build positive relationships and live life to the full.

    2025/2026

    Children's Mental Health Week

We have been marking Children’s Mental Health Week at St James', which this year has the theme “This is My Place”, focusing on belonging — feeling safe, valued, included and comfortable being ourselves. Belonging can come from many places, such as our families, friends, school, hobbies, communities and the things we enjoy doing.

Our fantastic Peer Mentors supported this learning by visiting classes across school to help deliver the lesson and talk about what belonging means. 🤝

Every child then created their own “belonging map”, drawing and adding symbols to represent the places where they feel they belong — from home and school to clubs, friendships and favourite activities. 🗺️🎨

We are proud of how our children continue to support one another to make St James' a place where everyone feels they belong. 💙

    Healthy Eating @ ST James'

Our fantastic Peer Mentors met with Miss Tindall to share the results of their research into healthy eating and packed lunches 🥗🍎🍞. They confidently presented their findings and spoke brilliantly about the importance of making healthy choices every day 💬✨

The group have developed a clear action plan to help make a positive impact across our school community 🌟. As part of this, they will be creating an eye-catching poster to share with all parents and carers 🖍️📋, as well as delivering an assembly to educate their peers about healthier lunchbox options 🎤📚. Their poster will also be included in our revised Healthy Eating Policy 🏫📖.

Miss Tindall was incredibly impressed with the depth of their research, their thoughtful discussions and their brilliant ideas for promoting healthy habits 🍇🥕💡. We are so proud of the maturity, teamwork and dedication they have shown 👏🙌

Well done, Peer Mentors - you are making a real difference! 🌈✨

    World Mental Health Day 🌟

Our Peer Mentors led a special Worship all about World Mental Health Day.

💭 The main messages they shared were:

Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.

You are never alone – there is always someone who will listen and help.

The Peer Mentors reminded everyone that about Hello Yellow Day 💛 – a chance to show support for mental health awareness by adding some yellow to our school uniform.

We are really proud of our Peer Mentors for leading this Worship and helping us all to remember how important it is to look after our wellbeing. 🌈✨
