PE

Year 1 are really enjoying their fitness sessions in PE this half term.

This week they did some fitness circuits with their KAGAN groups. The other children in their group counted how long it took them to do the circuit and then they tried to beat their time the next time they had a go. We also had a go at seeing how far they could jump and seeing if they could beat their personal best each time.

RE

This week our key question was:

How does the life cycle of a butterfly reflect the events of Easter?

We recapped our previous learning of the butterfly life cycle and looked at Reception Class' caterpillars.

We then discussed how it is like some of the events in the Easter story.

Good Friday –Jesus died and his friends put him in a tomb. (The chrysalis)

Easter Sunday – He is Risen! Jesus has new life. (The butterfly)

After that we went outside and made the life cycle of a butterfly using natural objects that we found outside.

Art & Design

On Friday, we used the skills we have learnt in the previous lessons to create our very own 'Tree of Life'

The tree of life is a common way of representing all of nature in one tree. Some cultures have stories or myths based on the tree of life. The idea appears in lots of art, from paintings to stained glass to sculpture.

We were very impressed with the children's creativity.
