Week 4

Our Star of the Week this week is...

Leon!

Our SkAt winner this week is...

Esmai!

It has, yet again, been another busy week in Year 5! We have done lots this week in such a short amount of time!

English

In English this week, we have been using drama techniques to help us develop our character descriptions. We wrote a character description based around our novel, The Portal. We needed to describe someone (or something) coming through the portal to meet the main character, William.

Our character needed to show a key emotion when coming out of the portal to help with our character description. For example, if our character was angry, through our drama, we would need to show our character being angry! They may stomp their feet, cross their arms and give their biggest frown to show that they are angry! We used this information to help build our character descriptions about their emotions, without using the word that describes their emotion! We used different writing features, such as similies, metaphors and personification to help build these character descriptions!

Music

Very fitting that the title is a shade of blue, as we have been looking at The Blues in Music! Over the past few weeks, we have learnt about the history of Blues music and why it is called The Blues, we have listened to short pieces of Blues music (Moanin' Lisa Blues by The Simpsons is our clear favourite!) and we have started to play some Blues music. We have learnt about the different notes you might find in a piece of Blues music and have been using xylophone's to play our different chords and notes!
