Meet the staff in Year 1

In Year 1 our Class Teacher is Miss Whaley.

Our Teaching assistant is Mrs Hoyle.

On Wednesdays our Class Teacher is Mrs Blackburn.

PE Days

This year our PE days are Wednesday and Friday. The children will need to come to school in their sports kit. This can be anything practical for a full day of school.

Homework in Year 1

In Year 1 your child will be given a homework pack each half term. This will be sent out on a Friday and children can return it for the following Friday. This will contain a Phonics task and a Mathematics task each week. Children will be given a Homework Heroes raffle ticket for each task completed in their homework pack per week. 

Reading at Home

In Year 1 we will be reading with your child on a 1:1 basis alongside daily phonics teaching and daily story time. 

Once your child brings home a reading book, please read with them at home at least three times per week. This will support their learning in preparation for their National Phonics Screening Assessment at the end of Year 1. 10 minutes of reading at home per day is ideal. When you have read with your child, please sign their reading record and they will receive a Homework Heroes raffle ticket each time they read at home.

We have set reading days for your children to read with an adult on a 1:1 basis. Please see below:
