Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today, we say a fond farewell to Reverend Alice who is leaving us to start a new chapter at another school. We are so thankful for the time Rev Alice has spent with us and are very sorry to see her go. Over the years, she has done a fantastic job of leading us in worship as a whole school, members of staff, small groups and individuals. We are going to miss starting our week with her in church every Monday. Her new school is very lucky to have her and we're sure you'll join us in wishing her the very best of luck!
This afternoon, Year 6 did some great multi-tasking: SATs revision, team building, outdoor learning, map skills and getting active! The whole class showed excellent teamwork skills and worked hard to complete a SATs arithmetic paper which was set out as an orienteering course. The winning pair were rewarded with 15 dojos!
Yesterday, Year 5 had their 'Play in a Day'. They worked so hard throughout the day on their performance of 'The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe' and blew us all away with their performance in the afternoon. A huge thanks to @Dramatic Annie for all their help in organising the day and another well done to all of Year 5 for all their hard work!
To celebrate British Science Week, the children at St James’ hosted their very own science fair today. The theme for this year is ‘Time’ and as a school we focussed on STEM careers and our future aspirations. The children learned about a diverse range of scientists and people who work in science-related jobs.
Each class concentrated on an area of science and used their oracy skills to present their learning to other classes throughout the afternoon. There was a lovely buzz around school today and we loved sharing information about our inspirational STEM people too! We can all be scientists! Well done everyone!
This afternoon, Year 6 have been working on their playground structures in DT. What an amazing job they have done creating monkey bars, climbing frames, swings, zip wires and roundabouts! Well done, Year 6!
Well done to today's Wow Word winners chosen by the oracy pupil voice group. They all won a certificate and a book to write their own stories and poems in. The oracy group loved the creativeness of the costumes.
We have had such a great day celebrating World Book Day in school today. The day was organised by the oracy pupil voice group and the theme of the day was no rules poetry. Children enjoyed writing their own poems and each class learnt a poem which was performed in an assembly, led by the oracy group at the end of the day. Everyone dressed up as a 'wow word' and it was great to see a real buzz around vocabulary. Each class met in the hall with a different class to share their favourite books and it was lovely to see lots of talking. Well done to our fabulous oracy group for such a memorable day in school.
The Courageous Advocates delivered a brilliant assembly yesterday, talking to the whole school about what being a courageous advocate is and getting the children to think about the skills you need to be a courageous advocate and the ways you can do this. They finished with the important message that it is everyone's responsibility to be a Courageous Advocate.
Well done to the Year 5 children who have achieved their Arts Award. Here they are with their completed portfolio of work and their certificates. To receive the award, they looked at lots of Japanese art work including Kintsugi, origami and anime. The children really enjoyed working towards this award with Mrs Hudson and should be very proud of themselves!
