Week 4

PE

This week in PE we worked on our striking and fielding skills. We mainly worked in groups of three which also enhanced our teamwork and communication skills. We used soft tennis balls and cones to practice our throwing and catching skills. Using a cone we tried to catch the ball that was thrown to us using the under arm throwing technique by our partner. We then worked in groups to throw, pass and catch the ball. We used the throwing and passing aids to help support our aim. We really enjoyed this weeks lesson in the sun!

Design Technology

This week we have been lucky enough to have Mrs Hudson come into our Design Technology lesson to help us get started with making our puppets. This week we read the story of Little Red Riding Hood, chose the character that we wanted to make and then brainstormed our ideas and designs. In our groups, we designed the front and back of our puppets using a template that Miss Whaley had printed. Mrs Hudson and Mrs Hoyle helped us to cut out the puppets from felt and cotton so that we can begin to transfer the design onto the material next week!

English

This week we worked really hard on our writing! We did a shared write on our focus text - The Ugly Five by Julia Donaldson. We have loved this book in Year 1 and we were really excited to show off our writing skills by rewriting the story with an innovated setting and character. We have worked very hard on new grammar aspects - question and exclamation marks, and extending our vocabulary. Our favourite words have been 'savannah', 'delightful' and 'lanky'. We worked really hard to include some of our key words in our writing. Miss Whaley and Mrs Hoyle are super impressed with our writing progress!
