Miss Smith is our class teacher.
Mrs Hartley and Miss Walsh are our teaching assistants.
Mrs Wilton will teach us on a Monday afternoon.
This year our P.E days are Monday and Tuesday. The children will need to come to school in their school PE kit. This must be a plain white t-shirt or the red school P.E t-shirt with black bottoms such as leggings, shorts or joggers and a pair of trainers or black PE pumps. If it is cold, your child can bring a plain black cardigan or jumper to wear. Earrings will need to be removed or taped for P.E lessons.
Homework is going to be different this year. Your child will be given a homework book and a 'talk token' will be sent home every Friday. This is designed for you to talk about your child's learning with them at home. Please send their homework book back to school for the following Friday. Children will receive a 'Homework Heroes' raffle ticket for completing the talk token at home each week. If they keep their homework book safe, they will be given five extra raffle tickets at the end of each half term. All of these raffle tickets will be entered into our class ‘Homework Heroes’ box and a winner will be drawn at random every half term to win a special treat.
Your child will have two reading books. One which is their home reader and one which is a reading for pleasure book for them to enjoy. We read to and with your child every day in school. To support this please could you read with your child for 10 minutes or more per day and then date and sign their reading record. To encourage a love of reading we will give out raffle tickets for each time a child reads at home and has their reading record signed by an adult.
Your child will complete a multiplication tables check this year. We would like them to do well in this and it really helps with their maths if they know all of their times tables. We will be working on this in school this year but please also support us with this at home. There are many ways to learn times tables which could include reciting them, writing them down, listening to times tables songs etc. Your child will have allocated time to play on TT Rockstars in school each week but please encourage them to play on TT Rockstars at home as well as this is a fun way for them to learn! We also have weekly TT Rockstar competitions that your child can take part in and there will be certificates awarded to the most valuable players each week.
We are looking forward to working closely with you this year to make sure your child has a wonderful time in Y4. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything please catch us on the door at the beginning or end of the day. You can also contact us via the Year 4 email address (year4@stjameslowerdarwen.blackburn.sch.uk) or ring the office to arrange for a convenient time for a telephone conversation. Please be aware that the class emails are not checked every day so if it is an urgent matter please contact the school office team who will be happy to help.
