Week 3 (Monday 16th January - Friday 20th January)

Our Talk Rules in Reception Class

We have been thinking about our class talk rules a lot this week. We have had lots of opportunities for discussion with our talk partners and Miss Bryan has been super impressed.

The children are taking lots of opportunities to answer using full sentences and our speaking is so much clearer. There has been lots more eye contact.

Nesting

We have also used a new talk tactic called nesting. Sometimes when Miss Bryan asks a question, she will ask us to get our little nests out (we cup our hands to make them into a birds nest) and give our answers to our nests. This helps the children to rehearse their answers/thinking before sharing with the rest of the class. This is really helping the less confident speakers in boosting their confidence when sharing their thinking.

PSHE

In PSHE this week, we have been talking about how we can keep ourselves safe indoors and outdoors. We listened to a story about Harold being a safety detective and discussed the different things Harold found around his house and outside. We discussed the dangers around and the children showed a really good understanding.

Chinese New Year

This week we heard the story about the 'Great Race' and how all the animals of the zodiac came about. We also learnt how Chinese New Year is celebrated by lots of people.

This year is the year of the rabbit and we have been learning facts about rabbits, did you know a baby rabbit is called a kit?
