Each year, every child in Reception class is paired with a child from Year 5, to become buddies. The role of a Y5 buddy is to form a bond and support their Reception child with their transition into school and to be a role model. In return, our Y5 children gain a sense of responsibility and have their confidence boosted.
Our buddy programme is a firm favourite with the children and we see friendships continue as the children move into Y1 and Y6 the following year. Play sessions, trips and activities are planned throughout the year, as well as letters and pictures being exchanged.
The Reception children created some handprint pictures to reveal to Y5 who their buddy was! Year 5 could hardly contain their excitement! In return, Y5 wrote letters and drew pictures to take to their buddies during the first meet. The Reception children created some handprint pictures to reveal to Y5 who their buddy was! Our first buddy stay and play was a huge success! The Year 5’s came to the Reception classroom to explore and get to know their Reception buddies in an environment they would feel comfortable in. The Reception children were challenged with telling their buddies about themselves and asking them a question, as part of their Oracy outcome for the half term.
