Week 6

Week 6

We have had an excellent week in Year 1 this week! We have been working on our SKAT 'We are team players'. We have engaged really well in all of our lessons, with lots of new learning!

Star of the Week

This week, our Star of the Week was Arnie! Arnie has shown great enthusiasm with his learning and has been working really hard to become a more independent learner. Well done!

Design Technology

We were super excited this week to be making our fruit smoothies! Over the past few weeks we have been working with our teams to decide which ingredients we should use, the design of our smoothie carton, and learning all about different fruits and vegetables. On Thursday, we worked with our table group to prepare, chop and blend our ingredients to make them into a delicious smoothie! We had so much fun and couldn't wait to taste them!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have moved on to our new sub-topic of Addition and Subtraction within 10. We have been introduced to part-part whole models learning how to partition numbers into two parts to make the whole. On Tuesday, we used beanbags to throw into a hoop. One part was the number of beanbags in the hoop and the other part was the number of beanbags outside of the hoop, and the whole was the total number of beanbags. Miss Whaley was very impressed with our understanding of this tricky concept!

Phonics

This week, we consolidated our learning of phase 4 consonant blends and clusters. On Wednesday, we played a memory writing game where we had to go to the carpet, turn over a word card and read the word, memorise the word, and then go back to our table and segment the word by writing it down. We loved this game and it also helped us with our letter formation and fine motor skills!
