Week 6

Maths

 

We have started to look at a new topic, calculating the volume of cubes and cuboids. We explored this concept practically, using multilink cubes. This allowed us to see the link between the number of cubes and the volume of the shape.

Design Technology

 

Using ideas from our previous lesson, we cooked 3 different Bolognese recipes. The first group cooked a lentil based dish in order to cater for any vegetarians or vegans. The second recipe was from the BBC Food website and one we studied in some depth in order to establish its nutritional value. Finally, the third group cooked a slightly healthier version which also took into account the fact that some children do not enjoy eating tomatoes. We then taste-tested each completed dish.

 

Most of the children considered that the second recipe was the tastiest. This included children who claimed not to enjoy Bolognese! This is what some of the children had to say about the recipes tested:
