Week 5

What a busy week!

Monday was full of excitement as the children started their Design and Technology unit: Eating Seasonally. We looked at different climates around the world and discussed how different fruit and vegetables need different climates to grow. I was extremely impressed with the children's understanding of this as it's quite a lot of information! They were able to use world maps to look at which fruit and veg grew in which countries and use a colour key to see which climate those countries had. They children prepared and made their own Japanese fruit kebabs to taste. Most children really enjoyed them! If you would like to try this at home, here is the recipe:

In RE we researched different Harvest Festivals around the world: The Rice Festival in Bali, Olivagando in Italy and Erntedankfest in German speaking countries. We also looked at Christian charities which support people around the world whose harvest has failed.

In English we have been writing our own versions of the Stone Age Boy. We have done this in the format of a shared write: broken down sections of writing each day which are heavily modelled and each focus on a new recent skill we have learned. The children were very excited to use an editasaurus for the first time! This is a tiny little dinosaur which they can read their work to to help spot mistakes.  Next week, the children will have chance to show off their learning in their independent writes.
