Science

This week we carried out some experiments which explored reversible and irreversible changes.

Reversible change - lighting a candle and watching the wax melt. Then blowing out the flame and watching as the wax hardened again.

Then we looked at the irreversible change of making a cake.

The children all participated in emptying the mix into the bowl, breaking and adding the eggs, then finally adding the water. They then mixed the ingredients altogether. When discussed how a chemical change takes place in the oven by heating. The children realised that they could not reverse the process.

The children were then treated to a cake each, just to test them out!

Maths

The children have been finding factors and factor pairs.

Geography

The children have been researching Fairtrade.

Arts Award

This week during the Arts Award session after school on Tuesday, the children had great fun learning to write in Japanese calligraphy.

All the children got excited when Mrs Hudson gave them their own calligraphy book and their name written in Japanese, with other worksheets.

Mrs Hudson commented that it was the quietest the group has ever been.

Lily-Mae enjoyed it so much that she went home and wrote a letter to Miss Smith in Japanese.Well done Lily-Mae, the letter has made it onto the Year Five Wow Work board.

World Mental Health Day

The Mental Health and Wellbeing group came to talk to Y5 about mental health and gave them a homework task which lots of the children completed. We also read the book 'Bottled' which is about not bottling things up and then added our worries to a bottle to let them out.

Bikeability

Our group of children that took part in Bikeability were happily awarded their certificates and badges for taking part in the scheme.

Thank you so much to the gentlemen that took them.
