Week 1

Week 1

Welcome back! We have had a very busy week in Year 1 this week and we have shared lots of news from the Christmas break. We can't wait for you to see what we have been up to!

Star of the Week

This week our star of the week is Shivani. She could be awarded this blue jumper week in, week out. Shivani has won star of the week this week for her outstanding work ethic and presentation. Well done Shivani!

This week we have started our new unit of learning - Creation. We had our first lesson where we discussed 'How do you think God felt when he created the world?'. We used modelling clay to create our own masterpiece (this could be anything we wanted to make) and then we discussed with our table group how we felt after making it. We then wrote a sentence in our RE explaining our creation and feelings just like God.

This week we have been moved onto Adding within 20. We have been using number bonds to 10 to help us understand number bonds to 20. We have used part-part whole models to work our missing parts on bar models and ten frames to work out the total.

We have started a new unit of learning with Miss Whaley on Thursday and we got to be pirates! Our topic is dance and we were learning how to use a count of 8 to stay in time to the theme music and dance like pirates. We even played a game where we completed pirate actions in time with the music!

We have been lucky enough to work on both the iPads and laptops this week. We practised logging on to the laptops and then navigating purple mash ready to start a new unit of learning with Mrs Wilton on Monday. We also practised our maths fluency on the iPads using White Rose One Minute Maths. This is a great resource to practise at home too!
