Week 2

What we've been up to this week...

Another busy week in year 3!

We have started to read our new text for English which is The Secret Seven. The children completed a listening grid to establish characters and events. We also continued exploring adverbs, this week focussing on adverbs of place and cause. We 'magpied' effective vocabulary from chapter 4 and also made predictions about what we think will happen to Jack! The children are so excited to find out what happens next! The gasps of excitement from children when they see a book being lifted out of the drawer is honestly one of the best sounds ever as a teacher! It's wonderful to see such excitement about reading.

We have started our history topic which is to explore "What is the secret of the standing stones?" Our learning is centred around The Bronze Age. The children were intrigued about how bronze was made by smelting copper and tin. We looked at some pictures of artefacts and guessed what they were used for.

We have continued looking at multiplication in maths. In our outdoor learning we used large scale equipment and also natural resources to compare multiplication statements and reason our ideas. We have also used base 10 equipment and place value counters to practically multiply two digit numbers by one digit numbers without exchanging.

In RE we went across to church to interview Rev Alice about why Christians sing in worship. The children asked some really insightful questions and listening brilliantly.
