  • Maths Tournament

    Thu 29 Feb 2024

A group of children represented St James' at an inter-schools TTRs competition this week.

They were fabulous and, although they didn't come away with the winners trophy, they definitely did themselves and the school proud! It was a super event and we can't wait to participate in more maths tournaments! Well done!

  • Class Wedding

    Thu 29 Feb 2024

Cuteness overload in Year 1 today Today Year 1 had a class wedding as part of their English and RE topics. The children came into school in their gorgeous outfits, they had everything from fascinators to three-piece suits, and beautiful dresses! Thank you to all the parents for making a tremendous effort! The children absolutely loved it and they even had a wedding photoshoot! The ceremony was held in the hall, then they went back into class for speeches, cutting of the cake, first dances and then a bit of a party to celebrate! The children were amazing and their oracy skills were outstanding, well done Year 1 and a huge thank you to Miss Whaley for organising such a special, memorable learning experience!

  • Natural Selection

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

In Science, this afternoon, Year 6 explored natural selection - also known as survival of the fittest! We have been learning about Charles Darwin and his expedition to the Galapagos Islands where he came across finches which had different beaks. In our experiment, the children all had a different 'beak' and had one minute to feed as much as possible. Those who didn't manage to get enough food died and, over time, the species adapted and evolved. The children certainly embodied the birds' survival instincts and we discussed how this would also happen in the wild!

  • Green Day!

    Mon 26 Feb 2024

On Friday, the children were a sea of green as the Eco Pupil Voice Group challenged everyone to wear green to raise awareness for sustainability! The children also delivered an assembly the whole school encouraging them to make changes to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The children did a fantastic job! Thanks to everyone for taking part and for your generous donations.

  • Relaxation Club

    Fri 23 Feb 2024

We had the first Relaxation Club of the year yesterday with Mrs Tindall. It was a nice early start at 8.00 am.

The session started by learning new yoga moves and developing them into a yoga sequence. Following this, Mrs Tindall then showed the group how to do a full body scan relaxation. The session ended by writing and sharing positive affirmations, as well as by thanking God for making us who we are.

  • Finger Lights

    Wed 21 Feb 2024

Year 1 loved using their new finger lights today to help them read different model texts in English. They have just started learning about recounts, so they were exploring different examples and looking for key words. The lights were a big success and the children were able to follow the text during a shared read! Well done Year 1, super reading!

  • Our Buddies are Off to the Library!

    Tue 20 Feb 2024

This morning, our Year 5 / Reception buddies enjoyed a trip to Roman Road library together. It was lovely to see the older children reading to the younger children and lots of chatter throughout the morning. We were very lucky to have two stories read to us by one of the librarians and some sunshine for the walk!

  • Attendance Recognition

    Fri 09 Feb 2024

Well done to the children who received an attendance praise postcard today. This means that since September, they have had 98% or above attendance. Well done everyone.

  • Showcase Time

    Fri 09 Feb 2024

Wow! We can't believe how many families attended our first work showcase of the year. It was a pleasure to see so many parents and carers spending time with their children looking at all of their work. At St James' we appreciate that Parent Evenings are vital, however, we also believe that families should get to come in and see children's books, art work and their classroom environment too. Each child selected three pieces of work that they are most proud of. They then displayed them ready to celebrate. Thank you to our families for your support with this. The feedback has been wonderful to read.
